So we ask for one adult in each team.

However many of you are coming, you all play on the same day, through the same streets. Nobody waits their turn and nobody sits and watches.

Nobody gets stuck

A web page opens on your phone, with nothing to install. It marks your answers and keeps count of what you get right and wrong.

If a team gets stuck, they ask for a clue and carry on. Nobody stands around, and nobody gets bored waiting.

Mornings work best

The families who enjoy it most play in the morning. Late in the afternoon, after the beach, the ones who arrive worn out are the adults — and the adults are the ones running the game.

In the morning there is light, the town is easy to walk and heads work faster.

If it is a birthday, the envelope trick

Take a plain white envelope, write "Read at the end" on the front and put whatever you like inside: a letter, a photo, a bar of chocolate for the little ones.

Put it in the bag before you set off. Nobody opens it until the last puzzle.
